Falls Church is designated as a census location in Virginia. Its name was derived from the religious structure called The Falls Church, which is found at the point where the current Broad Street, Lee Highway and Little Falls Street intersect.

It has the status of an independent city and covers an area of 2.0 square miles. Adjacent areas include Arlington, Idylwood, McLean, Seven Corners and West Falls Church, all in Virginia. According to the 2010 census, Falls Church had a population of 12,332. More recent statistics from Data USA show that the population had grown to 13,308 by 2015.


The oldest evidence of colonial settlement in the area is a chimney with the date 1699 engraved on it. The Falls Church building is associated with the American Revolution since George Washington and George Mason hailed from the church. In 1776, a copy of the United States Declaration of Independence was publicly read to the people on the steps of the church.

The Falls Church building is a historic site as it was built in 1769 and represents the early history of America. Falls Church is also home to other historical sites apart from the church, one of them being the Cherry Hill Farmhouse. It was built in 1845 and is associated with the famous Greek-Revival. It is managed by the church and is open to the public.

There are two historic boundary stones that were used to demarcate Falls Church and the County of Arlington. One of them is the SW 9 Stone, which is in the Benjamin Banneker Park. The other is the West Cornerstone on 2824 Meridian Street. Another significant site is Mount Hope, a historic home that was built in the 1830s.
